Green Ribbon Campaign is a Restorative Justice tool of Prison Fellowship Nigeria, aimed at crime reduction through the provision of a constructive moral environment for returning ex-prisoners back to society and meaningful socio-economic re-integration.

It is a well know fact that ex-prisoners are largely ostracized and stigmatized, with no one willing to help. This social isolation and rejection forces the ex-prisoners to seek company and help from their erstwhile criminal gangs and friends, in no time they hit at society, creating fear and insecurity. Research studies have shown that as much as 60% of those who come out of prison return to prison within 3 years of their release. We can do something to reduce the number, by showing empathy, compassion and care to ex-prisoners in the name of Christ and common humanity.

What does a prisoner need most when he/she comes out of prison? - a caring and welcoming community to begin again. Together, we can provide the care that affords the ex-prisoner the fair opportunity for rehabilitation and re-integration into meaningful socio-economic life.

Let us provide fellowship, counseling, support shelter, food, clothing, trade skill, and tools acquisition and mentoring. As we do this, we are not only fulfilling the divine mandate to show compassion and love (the mark of true discipleship) we are, at the same time helping to reduce the number of those with pre-disposition to criminality, thereby helping to create a safe, secure and peaceful environment for the enjoyment of socio-economic, cultural, political and family life.

Think of the havoc one criminal can wreck! Then you will appreciate that helping to keep one ex-prisoner from returning to crime means a lot to our wellbeing as a people.

Support the campaign against the rejection, ostracisation, discrimination and stigmatization of ex-prisoners. Let us give them a fair second chance. The church as light of the world, charged with the great commission, is in the best and preeminent position to head this campaign for soul winning, safe & secure environment and the society at large.

We must do our level best to stop the swelling number of criminals by preventing those who have come out of prison from returning to crime for lack of welcome and support.
